Cell Phone Companies

Many of today’s cell phone companies offer access to the internet. It is often included in the phone contract or can be added to a contract. These are often promoted through the use of that company’s 3G network.

3G networks, or 3rd generation, were created to enable better and more widespread coverage for cell phone and in so doing offers better and more widespread access to the internet. In order to use the 3G network, you need to buy a smart phone which is a phone capable of accessing the internet.

3G networks enable the user to have higher data speed, enhanced audio and video capabilities, video conferencing, internet, and access to the television. These options are often in addition to what has become standard on cell phones today, such as mobile-to-mobile, push-to-talk, text messaging, conference calling, call waiting, and caller ID.

In addition to 3G networks, companies are currently working on establishing 4G networks. 4G, or 4th generation, is being developed for high speed broadband mobile capabilities. It is characterized by higher speed of data transfer and improved quality of sound through the use of WiMAX. 4G networks will give its users access to wireless broadband internet, multimedia messaging service, video chat, mobile television, high definition tv, digital video broadcasting, real time audio, and high speed data transfer.

When within a hotspot range, Wi-Fi enabled cell phones use data connection to transmit VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol). The signal is sent to the computer base station by the antenna on the WiFi phone. This signal is then transmitted over the web. This is a great advantage for users of cell phones because it does not use their paid plan minutes, dual mode phones are now common and relatively inexpensive, and it allows them to integrate with the 3G network.
